Beyond

Beyond

Beyond is a happy hour event held every Wednesday night from 6:30PM to 11PM in the Upstairs lounge above Skewers and Café Luna restaurants at 1633 P St NW (at the corner of 17th St and P St). The event features local and national DJs from all over the east coast playing a wide variety of music as well as drink specials and Moroccan tapas.

Music is the key to the event's existence and DJs spin everything from dubstep to downtempo electronica, underground hip-hop, indie rock, and reggae. The event serves as an outlet for DJs to play music seldom heard in DC, and thus fosters a spirit of creativity and inclusiveness. Since its start in May 2007, a number of nationally recognized DJs have played at Beyond, coming from as far away as New York City.  Beyond encourages artists involved in graphic design, music production/DJing, painting, poetry, and other right-brained endeavors to share their works with their fellow patrons.  A community blog to be published in early 2009 will showcase many of Beyond's talented guests.

The event is held in a beautifully decorated lounge reminiscent of North Africa, a short walk away from both the Farragut West and Dupont Circle Metro stations. Beyond features $2 beers, $3 Pomegranate Martinis and $4 Ketel One martinis until 8PM, with drink prices going up by just a dollar after that time. There is also a special $2 tapas menu from Skewers all night long, as well as that restaurant's full menu; extensive vegetarian options are available.
